Remote tables

SQL Anywhere can access data located on different servers, both Sybase and non-Sybase, as if the data were stored on the local server (SQL Anywhere, Adaptive Server Enterprise, Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and other ODBC data sources).

Location transparency of remote data is enabled by creating a Remote (local proxy) table that maps to the remote object. You can use a proxy table to access any object (including tables, views, and materialized views) that the remote database exports as a candidate for a proxy table.

Before you can map remote objects to a remote table, you have to:

1. Define the remote server where the remote data is located.
2. Map the local user login information to the remote server user login information if the logins on the two servers are different.

Must have RESOURCE authority. To create a table for another user, you must have DBA authority.
