Public Functions
MaxDB server provides Public Functions side by side with functions in the ordinary sense. The difference between the objects is that a Public Function is a global database function that can be called without specifying a schema name. At the same time the database function is assigned to the schema that has been determined implicitly or specified explicitly. Developing the software we separate the objects in different nodes depending on scope.
Creating Public Functions
New public functions are created within Create Public Function Wizard. In order to run this wizard you should either
• | select the Public Functions list or any object from that list and then use the Create New Public Function item from the popup menu |
or
• | open the server in Server Editor and the Public Functions tab there and press Insert or select the Create New Public Function item from the popup menu (Alternatively, use the corresponding link of the Navigation Bar). |
Editing Public Functions
Public functions are edited within Public Function Editor. In order to open the editor you should either
• | select the public function for editing in the explorer tree (type the first letters of the public function name for quick search); |
• | select the Edit Public Function item from the popup menu |
or
• | open the server in Server Editor and the Public Functions tab there; |
• | select the public function to edit; |
• | press the Enter key or select the Edit Public Function item from the popup menu (alternatively, you can use the corresponding link of the Navigation Bar). |
Dropping Public Functions
To drop the existing public function:
• | select the public function to drop in the explorer tree; |
• | select the Drop Public Function item from the popup menu |
or
• | open the server in Server Editor and the Public Functions tab there; |
• | select the public function to drop; |
• | press the Delete key or select the Drop Public Function item from the popup menu (alternatively, you may use the corresponding link of the Navigation Bar) |
and confirm dropping in the dialog window.
